Week 7/9/2018-7/15/2018

NOTE: See my guide on how to apply planetary aspects to your own experience through your natal astrology here.

Monday 7/9/2018 2:13:32am Pacific – Mercury in Leo square Jupiter in Scorpio (13d 21m)

Degree Symbols: Mercury (Kozminsky) - Two men tossing coins whilst another looks on; Jupiter (Kozminsky) – A lad pouring water into a sieve instead of a large jug, and watching two others fighting

Mercury and Jupiter met at 1d 41m Scorpio last October - a conjunction on a degree with symbolism that suggests the unseen and the occult. Mercury was in mutual reception with Mars, the ruler of Scorpio, giving him some dignity and bringing the focus of the action of the conjunction to Mercury, which makes the dynamic rather unpredictable. Mercury here will want to dabble and experiment, looking into states of consciousness and ways of thinking that evoke either worldly or Otherworldly power. Jupiter is a protective influence, but ultimately probably only along for the ride, with Mercury running the show. The high road with this cycle is learning to speak to people according to their feelings and emotional disposition, appealing to that side of their nature to help them (or allow them to help us) express strength or talents normally kept quiet or buried. The low road is winning people over or gaining their favor through dishonest manipulation, coercion, and secret power plays. We’re learning to be subtle but effective magicians with this cycle. Both Mercury and Jupiter play the role of magician at times, though very different types. Mercury likes legerdemain and formulations, while Jupiter provides growth and seeks to break the barrier between the mundane and the divine. Now, the seed of the conjunction is put to a strong test in the closing square, which forms a T-Square formation with retrograde Mars. Mercury is in Leo and in the face degrees of Jupiter, while Jupiter has moved into his own term degrees in Scorpio, gaining dignity. There is a dilemma here, and it is over the proper use of power. During this cycle we’ve likely gained allies or advanced on our paths by calling forth and expressing inner power, and it’s easy to get cocky and make bad decisions at such a juncture. The key is keeping the ego in check, remaining realistic about the tools available and the goals ahead, and allowing the flow of that inner power to continue evenly, like the flow of honey, without forcing results prematurely or through inappropriate means. As you work consciously with this aspect, explore your inner spiritual power and see how you wield it in both public and private. Is your moral compass pointing straight and true, or is it questionable? This is a great opportunity to examine our thoughts and how we project or will. From there, we can refine our characters where we find that our motives or actions need purification.

Wednesday 7/11/2018 8:25:42pm Pacific – Venus in Virgo trine Uranus in Taurus (2d 17m)

Degree Symbols: Venus (Kozminsky) – A young woman working at a spinning-wheel by a cottage window, which opens on a smiling garden in which bees are flying amongst the flowers; Uranus (Kozminsky) – A man tossing handfuls of seed to the earth, which, as soon as they touch, fructify and incline towards him

The conjunction of these two bodies back in March 2018 occurred in late Aries, with degree symbols suggesting pomp and circumstance on one hand and fullness and fecundity on the other, with a focus on the power of human love and friendship and the great things that they can help us achieve. With Venus also representing aesthetics and Uranus the collective human mind, the shadow side of the cycle is seeking results that are focused more on show than substance. A balanced expressed of this dynamic is therefore about giving equal concern to both presentation and content, being careful not to be overly impressed with a showy display when what may lie beyond the veneer is emptiness, or something different from what appears on the surface. As the opening trine comes together in Earth signs, kicking off a Grand Trine between Venus, Uranus and Saturn, there is a great opportunity for carefully tending and preparing something for an upcoming unveiling. We can see clearly how to communicate an image or a concept to others through a blend of our own unique aesthetic sensibilities and an understanding of how masses of people react to things. At the same time, we have the resources we need at hand, and the ability to use them wisely. Use this aspect to bring friends and those close to you in on what you are working on or things you are conceptualizing and see what they can add.

Thursday 7/12/2018 3:04:04am Pacific – Sun in Cancer opposition Pluto in Capricorn (20d 1m)

Degree Symbols: Sun (Charubel) – A king, an emperor, or commander on horse back; Pluto (Kozminsky) – The head of a goat with the solar disc between its horns

The conjunction in January began with an emphasis on building something that will take much time and energy to complete, as well as the work of many hands. Such a work is likely to take place through utilization of the ruins or available parts of something that has passed its time or was never completed according to the original plan and will now be repurposed. This can apply to both physical and nonphysical structures, with the nonphysical applying to ideas, opinions or philosophies that have taken us to a certain point in life, but that we can go no further with because our lives have given us evidence that cannot allow us to continue to hold on to them. In the opposition, with the Sun having no dignity and Pluto being in the Sun’s face and the term of Mars, Pluto is likely to be dominant in this dynamic, able to draw freely on the Sun’s energy to build up, divide, decrease or destroy as he sees fit. The opposition will likely see the removal of debris and obstacles that block completion of some of our grandest designs, or at least provide a clear line of sight regarding how to facilitate that process from start to finish. Perspective may be blessed with great clarity, allowing us the ability to understand which situations we have the power to change or influence and where we can go from here if we are willing to be honest with ourselves. On the other hand, we may be tempted to enter dramatic power plays with this aspect, seeking to advance ourselves where it is inappropriate or untimely. We may also observe this happening with people in our lives. Harness the symbolism of this aspect by assessing where you are best suited to advance a cause or project and taking the needed action to do so.

Friday 7/13/2018 11:44:15pm Pacific – Venus in Virgo trine Saturn in Capricorn (4d 39m)

Degree Symbols: Venus (Charubel) – A very long, straight road, the terminus of which I do not see; Saturn (Kozminsky) – A winged urn from which water is pouring on to the parched earth. Where the water falls vegetation springs forth luxuriantly

This Venus-Saturn cycle suggests an effort to begin a great climb, and with both planets having dignity in the initial conjunction, there is a spirit of cooperation and reciprocity that is not usually characteristic of Saturn. The two earthiest planets, one of them providing cohesion and the other structure and discernment, move together to give a great, enthusiastic boost towards a measurable, real, yet lofty goal. The closing trine in Earth signs finds Saturn well placed and driving the dynamic, coaxing forth and perhaps even prodding Venus, who at this point may be more interested in dipping into the fruits of the labor than paving the way for what came forth in the opposition to find its place and present its usefulness to the world. As the Venus-Uranus-Saturn Grand Trine closes with this aspect, we start to wonder if all the blood, sweat and tears that we’ve put into something have been worth it, and if we should alter course and make things easier on ourselves. The answer, of course, depends on a candid assessment of all factors – the actual tasks involved in the work, the quantity of labor involved, and the amount of satisfaction that we have gotten from the whole process. This aspect reflects the time that comes in any working when we decide at what level we want to commit to something, and the personal sacrifice that it is worth to us. Productivity can be at a maximum under this aspect, but the question we need to ask is where and in what ways we want to be productive. Ask the question and move forward according to the answer that comes.
